Monterey Networks was a venture capital backed start-up formed in 1997 in the Silicon Valley with primary equity financing from Sequoia Capital and Jafco that got aquired by Cisco Systems for $500 million in 1999.
Fossil Inc.
Fossil Inc. was started in 1984 by Richardson Berkner High School graduates Tom and Kosta Kartsotis, as the first American brand to bring value and style to the watch category. In the 1990's Fossil expanded its core business, launching a line of accessory products including handbags, belts, small leather goods and sunglasses. Today, Fossil operates over 200 retail stores and outlet stores in the U.S. and 126 accessory retail stores, 11 multi-brand stores, and 16 outlet stores internationally. The $1.5 billion revenue company is headquartered in Richardson.
Richardson Bike Mart
RBM is a highly successful retailer in North Texas with national reputation and a unique niche among both recreational bikers and serious racers, including Richardson’s own Lance Armstrong, who purchased his first bicycle from Richardson Bike Mart in 1987.
Vent-A-Hood® was the first manufacturer of home cooking ventilation and range hoods.  Vent-a-Hood traces its history back to the 1930’s when Dallas-based Lone Star Gas was looking for a way to increase natural gas sales to residential customers.
Cyrix Semiconductor
Cyrix Semiconductor was founded in 1988 by Jerry Rodgers, who with the help of a small but elite team of fellow ex-Texas Instruments engineers built a fabless semiconductor design company that created CPU chips. Their technical performance rivaled, and even surpassed, that of industry giants Intel, IBM and AMD.
GlobeRanger Corp.
GlobeRanger Corp. is an RFID software and solutions company founded in Richardson, Texas in 1999 that has pioneered the creation of an information processing infrastructure at the edge of the enterprise. GlobeRanger powers some of the largest RFID production deployment in the world including the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency and Flora Holland.
OraMetrix, Inc.

Formerly known as Orthotel, OraMetrix, Inc. was founded in 1998 and is based in Richardson, Texas. OraMetrix provides 3-D technology solutions for facilitating and improving the quality of orthodontic care. It offers an orthodontic treatment system that allows the use of precision digital tools throughout the diagnosis, treatment planning and monitoring, and arch wire customization processes of the orthodontic treatment.

STARTech Early Ventures

STARTech Early Ventures was founded in 1997 as a business incubator to focus on developing technology-based start-up and entrepreneurial activity in the Telecom Corridor(c) in Richardson, Texas. Since its inception, STARTech has created strong networks of executives, entrepreneurs, co-investors, university and private researchers and professionals which provide access to innovative technologies.

Zyvex Labs

Zyvex Corporation was founded in Richardson in 1997 to develop and commercialize Atomically Precise Manufacturing technology — ultimately building products with atomic precision.
